This painting represents the look of the waterfalls as they would exist, cascading down the rainbow mountain. The Rainbow Mountain of Peru, also known as Vinicunca, are stunning and can be seen on the spectacular Ausangate Trek. Ausangate mountain itself is considered a holy mountain (or mountain spirit) by local Peruvians and is the deity of Cusco. Since pre-Inca times the mountain has been a place of worship and offerings and this tradition continues today.
The colors were dripped onto the tile and manipulated with a variety of wax paper strips, No paintbrushes were used in the creation. The movement created by the ink is natural and the vivid color is multiplied by the overlapping of the inks when they spread. Alcohol inks have a life of their own and while they can be manipulated, they often do much of the creative work by themselves. Keep checking back for additional representations created with the same earthly views of the artist.
Alene Sirott-Cope is a professional graphic designer, potter, mixed media artist, photographer, art director, and art educator in several universities in the New England area. She uses her expertise with graphic design concepts, including color, shape, and texture, in all of her pieces.
